Janie was born on April 28, 1977, to Phillip and Judy Inglis in Dayton, MD, on a small cattle farm. Her childhood was filled with experiences like accompanying her father to livestock auctions, riding his tractor around the pasture, and restoring old Mustangs together. She also spent time with her mother snapping peas and learning cherished family recipes such as chicken and dumplings and biscuits.
What set her family apart was that both parents had disabilities. Phillip contracted polio at just 14 months old, leading him to rely on crutches and a mobility scooter for movement. His parents prioritized his education. Filling his environment with opportunities to exercise his mind over his physical strength. This enabled him to discover his passion for electronics and turn it into a sustaining career.
Janie's mother gradually lost her hearing due to prolonged ear infections. The family couldn't afford the necessary treatments or send her to a school for the deaf for sign language education. Consequently, she had to leave school by the 10th grade to assist the family by working in tobacco and corn fields.
These experiences instilled in Janie the importance of providing children with an education that equips them for adulthood.
Growing up on a 10-acre farmette in Howard County, Janie helped her father manage the cattle and horses. Her childhood was spent exploring, climbing trees, and exploring the woods around the creek. After graduating from Glenelg High School, she pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with a focus on Anthropology. This led her to work as an archaeological technician for the National Park Service at the Monocacy National Battlefield's L’Hermitage site on Best Farm.
Janie worked as a Veterinary Technician before earning her Associate’s degree in Nursing from Howard Community College and is completing her second Bachelor’s degree at George Washington University.
In 2009, Janie married JP Monier and moved to New Market with their two sons, Cole and Connor. They welcomed two lively puppies, Baxter and Sparky, and two kittens named Ohana and Neymar. Janie worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital on the Hospitalist unit until her father's passing.
Since then, she was elected as PTA President at New Market Elementary School. Under her leadership, the PTA has expanded its membership and demonstrated dedication to students, families, and the school through various events and initiatives. Notably, the PTA received a Healthy Minds Healthy Kid grant from the National PTA in 2023 and is preparing to roll out the program in April 2024. The PTA remains committed to supporting school activities like the Cindy Alvarado Run Series, Field Day, wolf adoption (New Market Wolves), Staff Basketball game, volunteer coordination, and more.
