Support for Parents, Families, and Teachers
- Open Communication Between Parents and Teachers - I aim to foster collaborative partnerships between educators, families, and community organizations to support students' holistic development and address their diverse needs. It is necessary to ensure transparency to resources and services that are available and how to access them so that students are successful.
- Parent Censorship - I support the use of software (provided by the same developer used in FCPS libraries) that would allow parents to choose what materials their students may or may not have access to. This eliminates the need for sweeping book bans while still allowing parents to censor content for their children.
- Addressing Understaffing and DEI - As a member of the board I will work with our stakeholders for pay equity for educators and staff, as well as grants and programs, such as Teacher Next Door. This would help alleviate the affordability crisis in housing, transportation and childcare for our teachers and staff, making it more attractive to work for FCPS. We can also increase recruiting efforts at historical black colleges and universities, work with community colleges to encourage students to pursue an education degree, and provide incentives for students to start their career with FCPS, provide new hire bonuses for those who are multi-lingual, and explore recruiting opportunities with schools such as the Maryland School for the Deaf which expands our diversity efforts to those with disabilities.
- Infrastructure - Addressing rapid growth and its impact on schools, including renovation, new schools, and redistricting, is a major issue for the school board. Without safe, clean school buildings, we cannot effectively address the many issues affecting students and classrooms.
